My coffee cup is empty.

The blood pumps a little faster,

neurones spark across my brain,

as I try to forget disturbing dreams,

the dark manacle of sleep

that held me to my pillow

a few moments earlier.

It’s a new day.

It may be grey, windy, damp,

but there is always promise

when birds call at dawn.

This could be the one to turn it around,

you never know.

I remind myself that whether or not

I find what I want,

I have much more than I need.

My life is a treasure, a marvel, a prize.

What a trip it’s been so far!

Though the sun may be hidden by clouds,

its light slightly dimmed,

it never fails to climb the sky

each morning to reveal again

I still have a way to go.
